OT-FECT
(Chemogaseous Sterilant for Critical Areas)
Limitations
of Formaldehyde fumigation
- Highly
Toxic - Known to be carcinogenic
and mutagenic.
- Irritant -
highly irritant to the mucus membrane of the eyes and lungs.
- Time -
minimum contact period required ranges from 6-48 hours.
- Efficacy
ineffective against dried spores.
- Relative
Humidity - Efficacy directy
proportional to relative humdity (RH) and RH is not controllable
during fumigation.
- Pressure
Zone - Efficacy varies with
presssure variance.
- Temperature - Surfaces with lower
temperature accumulate formaldehyde fumes to form in efffective
paraformaldehyde.
- Presence
of Water - Formaldehyde, due
to its affinity towards water, dissolves in it and form ineffective
paraformaldehyde.
- Presence
of Organic matter - Efficacy
reduced.
- Unreached
Surfaces - Can not reach
surfaces which are in intimate contact.
- Residual
effect - nil
